The Delivery
After several weeks of waiting, purchase and delivery of a new cradle and the sale of our boat, the day finally arrived when our Aloha came home. At 6:00 pm on Wednesday October 16 the "Land Tug" truck arrived at Stillwater Basin in Belleville and backed her into her winter berth. Immediately after the truck set her down it began to rain so we had a short look around the cabin, loaded on some cleaning supplies and batteries and called it a night. It is good to have her here and to start work on preparing her for spring. The first order of business will be giving her a good cleaning and oiling and covering up her ports with a tarp. A few of the ports seem to be leaking. We will sort the electrics out over the next few days so we can have some light and shore power to do a few needed projects. Over the next few weeks we will pull off some of the wood needing repair or refinishing, all of her cushions for re-upholstering, and all the accumulated junk in the drawers, cupboards, lockers etc. that can go in the garbage. We want to have her stripped down for winter so we can do as many little projects as possible in the warmth of our home. The bilges will be pumped dry and cleaned so we can monitor any leaking through the winter to assess if water is getting in. It will all happen in good time. At least she is home in one piece.
